The RYLA/RYPEN District Committee is proud to announce that Brittany Pilkington has been selected as the Lead Director for RYLA 2017.
RYLA 2017 will be held from 23-29 September 2017, with the Graduation Dinner held on 28 September at the Marche Club, Newton.
Britt is 22 years old and half way through a teaching and arts degrees at Flinders University, continuing this in 2017.
Always having had a love and interest in travelling, Britt has gone on adventures taking her to the United States, New Zealand and various parts of Asia. These overseas trips also included a short-term exchange in Japan, living in Tokyo for several months and attending university there. She also participated in a volunteer program building classrooms and teaching English in Cambodia.
Britt also loves playing and coaching netball, as an active member of the Mt Barker Lutheran Netball Club. Britt was fortunate enough to be sponsored by the Rotary Club of Strathalbyn to attend RYLA in 2012 and has enjoyed her time so much that she has continued to be involved in Rotary Youth programs since, as a Secretary at RYPEN 2013, and a Director at RYLA in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
She loves what RYLA stands for and is passionate about helping young people grow and develop their leadership potential.
Britt is currently working as a Service Supervisor at Woolworths in Mt Barker, where she has worked for 7 years. After the completion of hey tertiary education, Britt hopes to combine her love of travel and education, with an ambition of teaching English overseas, particularly in Japan as this would enable her to continue learning the language in the process.
Britt wanted to be the Lead Director for RYLA 2017 not only to further her leadership skills, but also to help the other leaders and participants develop theirs too.
Britt is looking forward to working with the team to build the program together, talking with clubs about RYLA, and replicate her positive RYLA experience for the 2017 cohort.
